Care Of Appliances

If you have questions or concerns about how to use your new dental appliance, our dental practice offers several resources online to help you take proper care of your smile. We offer helpful tips on maintenance and care for appliances such as dentures, crowns, bridges and more!

Dentures & Partials

It is essential to take care of the cleanliness of your smile, especially when you have dentures. Damage can still occur in dentures and the oral cavity if the smile is not properly cleaned and maintained. We advise you to clean your denture or partial on a daily basis and store it in water when the restoration is not in use. To clean your restoration, use a soft toothbrush and brush the metal framework of your dentures with toothpaste in warm water. If your appliance is acrylic or resin, you can brush it with toothpaste. You can soak them in warm water with a special denture-cleaning tablet to help avoid yeast growth. After 30 minutes of soaking, rinse them with water before placing back in your mouth. Make sure to always rinse and dry out the storage container for your dentures.

Dental Bridges & Crowns

We recommend that you purchase dental floss with a nylon threader to help clean your bridges and crowns. This nylon threader can help you reach underneath the tooth and provide a more thorough cleaning. You can also use an interproximal brush to help the floss fit through the teeth. We also recommend a water flosser, which can be just as useful as regular string floss.

With dental crowns, you can brush your teeth normally as you would with your natural teeth. We encourage you to brush your teeth twice a day in order to take care of your crowns. Regular use of mouthwash and flossing are also just as important to help remove plaque buildup and calculus deposits. If your permanent crown falls off, we advise you to contact our prosthodontists as soon as possible.
